A lot of work done this week, but alas, no pictures. I spent much of the time painting what used to be the woodshed and is now the shop. There is a little more painting to do and some decorating and furnishing. Also I am working on getting a sourdough pasta that I feel proud to sell. (If only I hadn’t unthinkingly used all the starter last time I made something…now I have to wait for another one to get going.) In the meantime, we will keep eating my practice!

Joel, I believe, spent much of the week mowing the grass, and I’m not sure what else he did. Oh, he fought with the rototiller and the heavy packed sod to clear a field where we, with Joel’s mom, got a lot of planting done yesterday. Most of the work was in digging rocks out of the ground to make a place for the potatoes to grow. Then we also planted corn, pumpkins, zucchini, swiss chard, turnips, peppers, and beans, most of those with a handy little seeding machine. It has two wheels arranged like on a bicycle or a scooter, and a hopper in between with a little rotating thing that drops seeds down at the right interval through a little wedge that cuts a furrow in the ground. Then a little chain covers the seeds with soil and the back wheel flattens it down slightly. The funnest part was planting a field of chicken forage and soil builder mixes, which we just walked along scattering. It felt very biblical.
